Gratitude for Gerberas

There are two bright suns
glowing orange at their centre and tips
lighting up the corner
in the Widow Wyile’s dining area

They’ve radiated warmth
welcome colour
through the white winter
after a leafy hiatus through the fall

They were a summertime gift
from her exuberant golden retriever friend
whose long silken fur too
gleams orange-red

The Widow Wyile croons
her pleasure to these lovelies
that surprised her in the short days of winter
first one sun shone solo
then two more blooms followed
to beam her into spring

Whenever she waters them
or catches their light
the Widow Wyile marvels over them
gorgeous gerberas
generate gratitude
for life and good friendships

Winter wonder most welcome
sunflares standing tall
on a slender green stalk
dense sleek slim petals gleam
ring bright stippled centres
blend bold orange bright yellow

Generous gerberas have lasted and lasted
radiating luminous reminders
of miraculous possibilities
that can arise in a dormant world
