Snowflakes Alight

On the first of December
the Widow Wyile wakes
to a wondrous white world
the brightening blanket of snow
f l u f f y   and   l i g h t
welcome   enlivening
visual wonder

Every branch and twig
flounced   tufted   capped   draped
in small yet extensive worlds
of singing crystal geometries
divine delights
exuding light   lightness   lightning
that enters our eyes
fills our bodies and entire radiant beings
expands our senses of attention
of memory   of calm
and of balance
for this expression of water
in accumulated snowflakes
is nature’s nourishing bountiful art
freely bestowed
beauty
full

By afternoon most twigs and branches
mosses and lichens growing up trunks
have dropped their chapeaux and foulards
in the somewhat above freezing sun
yet two mornings later
            they’ve donned new ones
and so
            the tableau changes
from moment to moment
a dynamic integral dance
quiet   luminous   beautiful
               vital
