Flor di Maio         of Christmas
epiphytic mothering wonders
living far from the jungle in pots
spread over five windowsills
in the Widow Wyile’s house
know exactly who they are
and what they are about
the perfection of their seven-
hundred-and-seventy-seven petals
unfurling like dainty Chinese dragons
alight with their very own ingenuity
unabashed yet humble
in their natural beauty
that calls glazed eyes to gaze
with full attention
sends lips into spontaneous smiles
easily serves to brighten hearts
and so as the necessary November rains
replenish the water table
                                                drip
from the dark silhouettes
of denuded trees while they settle
into their winter rest
they and the air purifying zygomorphs*
dazzling our beings indoors
remind us to blossom true
to our living divine design
fragile fleeting beauty
our gift from and to
the One we are All
the pinks and reds of November
blaze translucent now
then absorb nutrient carbons
and transmute pollutants every night
until the next time
they grace us with their crowning
