The Birds and the Beans

The Widow Wyile is daily
blest to witness
rapid wing beats

hover by zinnias
standing bright upon
her deck

fly to scarlet blooms of beans
running over her
squash arbour

stands of pink and fuschia
phlox and echinacea
bordering her turmeric
dwelling too
attract the iridescent
emerald visitors
who sometimes stop

a moment
upon branch or wire
resting their magnificent
purposeful selves

the birds and the beans
are gifts profound
as is the whir and thrum
of wing beats
and propulsion

plain evidence
daily miracles
to be met
with awe

full heart
and beaming
countenance
