No Chicken Feet
Now the Widow Wyile is a crone
who lives all alone in her home
a guest on land not so far away
from a salty bay
though this home has no chicken feet per se
it has been known to creak
and when the music is good
why you guessed it
that house can really sway
the frame it is tall
the roof it is swooped
the ceilings are high
yet the sills they are low
the building is crooked
and the land round about
yes of course
it is wooded
there are crows and foxes
hares and pheasants
raccoons deer ants coyotes
doves warblers ants woodpeckers
earthworms earwigs centipedes
sowbugs silverfish spiders
ants small speedy rodents
some of whom chatter chide and trill
ants some who scurry furtively
as they go about their daily and nightly tasks
and all this tells nothing of the beetles ants
biting insects, the lichens ants moss
the plants with thorns and prickles and how these all
fit together with the earth air
and water the creatures and the widow
rely on to get by
