Late Summer Surf Blast Widow Wyile

The wind whips the waves
that pound the shore
opaque red brown mud
mounds of water
rise and fall
rise and fall
crashing about
the wind is loud
as it races around
pushing and pulling
pushing and pulling
every element
air water earth
grasses sand people
who find the combined antics
respectfully exhilarating

The Widow Wyile’s hair
wisps zip about
escaping the braid most
of it was fastened into
her swimming board is ready
to sail away into the stratosphere
and every loose thing
flutters intensely

She assesses her sanity
as she steps into the Basin
to bob amid the froth
kicking her frog legs to stay
in place on the dancing sea
grinning and shouting
glee glee glee

the heat of summer’s end
is blasted away today
though from sucker patches
the sun shines amid the piling cloud

the water dogs too
race up and down
barking their uncertain exuberance
up and down
back and forth
they won’t go in
and somewhat skittishly
bark at the people
being silly in September
churn and spray
on mosquito free beach
while the man in a tuque
boots and windbreaker
walks up and down
up and down just to
keep warm
as the women grin
and shout their glee
yip yip yippee yip
eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

and they did this not
just on one day
but to day too
